Giant Birds is inspired by my love and admiration of all birds — and cockatoos in particular. With their extraordinary hairstyles and vivid colours, cockatoos are a recurring presence in my work, perhaps the most whimsical of all birds and impossible not to paint.
This piece depicts a glorious summer scene around a large orange tree. Beneath its branches, people are picnicking in the dappled shade, a fox is making off with something he shouldn't, and Egyptian geese waddle and bathe in the cool water of a nearby pond. Up in the tree and across the sky, birds of every sort chatter and sing — celebrating the breeze, the warmth, and the simple joy of a beautiful day.
